because everyone needs to be a little vulnerable.

I've been wanting to brag on my husband's amazing Christmas gift to me for a while now.  But the kick in the rump came when I saw the beautiful, clean work-space of Courtney of Flush Designs on WeddingBeePRO.  Which, by the way, I don't think I've ever mentioned that I also blog as a PRO on WeddingBee's PRO site.  They have wonderful vendors sharing ideas and projects all the time.  Even if you're single or already married, the inspiration that comes from such a great group of artists is worth the visit to the site.

I'm not an neat person by nature.  That's not to say that I'm dirty, or unorganized, but my sense of order is unique to me.  I know that's the case with most of you though, too.  YOU know where your potato peeler is, and since you're the only one that uses it, it doesn't matter that it's in the same drawer as your passport and hole-puncher--it makes sense to you, so you roll with it.

Well, so goes the story of my crafting and art supplies.  I know where my hot glue guns are.  Never mind that they're under a ten pound bag of acrylic paints and that you have to open the cabinet drawer veeeerrrryyy slowly to prevent an avalanche of flowers, ribbons, bobbins of thread and scraps of paper.   It's the way I work.  Right?

Wrong.

I married the tidiest man--no, person--I know.  He's clean and orderly and always smells nice on top of it all.  So after 7 months of marital bliss and putting up with Oh, My Deer goodies around every corner, he solved both of our woes.  For Christmas he surprised me with an antique tailor's table, completely set up and ready for business.  (PS--His mother [who is also tidy and neat and who always smells nice] bought me linen organizational baskets and a few other Oh, My Deer necessities for an orderly work space.  Do you think they were trying to send me a message?)  I was so jazzed to get to work that I opened my cabinet and pulled out the first scrap of paper I saw.  Cue the avalanche.  Literally, everything but some squished folds of fabric fell to the ground.  The camel's back had broken.

These photos detail the before and after of my "Oh-don't-worry-I-know-where-it-is" system.  But please, promise not to judge my mess.  I sort of feel like I'm standing in front of all of you with holes in my socks and coffee stains on my shirt.  But everyone needs to be a little vulnerable every now and then...

{ before & after }
before: This was the avalanche thrown into the living room.
after:  "Oh, hello beautiful and inviting work environment.  I think I'll get a lot done with you around."
And yeah, these photos were taken well after Christmas.  I just couldn't imagine getting rid of our picture-perfect tree after it had spent the better part of a decade just to decorate our living room for a month.  We left it up until about a week ago.  My family is from Appalachia.  Tec's lucky I don't keep Christmas lights up year-round.

Oh, I hear ya on the messy-gal-tidy-guy thing, for sure! As much as J would love our place to run with military efficiency, it's more like, well, not run that way. At all.

I agree w/ Ali! I LOVE your exposed brick and antho flava! More pics??

Doesn't it feel so good to be organized?
And I have a question; I'm looking into having outdoor games at the reception at my wedding and I noticed that you did that at yours.
Which games did you play and what went well or would you change?
Thanks so much. <3

Wow...that's better to be organized.
It's a surprise by adding a candid photo from one of your tables, or a photo of the two of you when they first started dating and keep it as a fun reminder of your gift.

Oh my goodness I absolutely love your space! And, I completely understand the "I know exactly where it is..." in a pile of a room.
