we welcome you, december!

Photograph I found while rummaging through and crying over abandoned photo albums at an antique store in Greeneville, Tennessee. Baby, it's cold outside!

It's official. I can finally listen to all five volumes of Sufjan Steven's Christmas album. Maybe it's a little predictable that his music is one of the treats I look most forward to this time of year, but I don't care. You know you love him, too.

What else do I look forward to? Making garland for our tree and centerpieces for holiday parties, sewing and gluing and painting and printing gifts for my loves, stirring up apple cider and hearty chili, and cozying up with my favorite man with the heat cranked up and our home filled with soft, glowing lights. But what all of these things have in common, is their necessity of time. So in the spirit of "yuletide carols" and "folks dressed up like eskimos," I'll be closing my shop from now until January. I may have a piece or two pop up for sale, but generally I'll get back to my Etsy conversations and emails after we ring in 2010.

I hope you're all able to enjoy this month with your loves, too. In a season filled with nostalgia, tradition and excitement, we all have so much to be thankful for.

I love those albums! My favorites are The Friendly Beasts and Come thou Fount of Ev'ry Blessing... I can't think of the others I love, guess I need to dig out the other three volumes that aren't on my iPod!

I remember when your mom turned me onto sufjan christmas.
it was the week before thanksgiving a few years ago and she had already pulled it out and was unashamedly playing it throughout your house, with a huge bowl of chili on the table.
she helped change the way my holidays will sound for forever. :)
have a merry christmas, pretty lady.
