welcome ho-ho-home

It might be cheesy or it might be sentimental, but I'm in love with the holiday season. In love.

I'm also in love with my husband, and he was out out of town for the first eleven days of the Christmas season. To welcome him back to chilly weather and holiday cheer, I decorated our home and planned a Christmas potluck. I also watched bad TV and ate like a bachelor.

We'll be spending much needed time with our families over the next few weeks, and it couldn't come soon enough. This will be the very first Christmas that I won't be waking up on Christmas morning at my grandparent's home. Instead, we're spending it with my husband's family and rumor has it that they have some wild traditions... like waking up at 3 am Christmas morning to open up presents! Is it true, Petajas?! Me, oh my. :)

What are your holiday plans, traditions, or recipes?

Also, here's a little Sneak Peek at our home during the holidays. It's been so much fun "nesting" this Christmas.

:: real wedding :: nicole and olin

That handsome and talented husband of mine has gone and done it again--photographing a gorgeous couple, in a beautiful location, capturing it flawlessly. We didn't put two-and-two together until he began shooting the day of the wedding and saw her hair accessories: the sweet, little puffs that sit so pretty in a bride's hair. I worked with Nicole to make these since she wanted something to accent the paper pom-poms she and her mother worked on as the backdrop for the ceremony. As Nicole said, the poms were "a labor of love."

we welcome you, december!

Photograph I found while rummaging through and crying over abandoned photo albums at an antique store in Greeneville, Tennessee. Baby, it's cold outside!

It's official. I can finally listen to all five volumes of Sufjan Steven's Christmas album. Maybe it's a little predictable that his music is one of the treats I look most forward to this time of year, but I don't care. You know you love him, too.

What else do I look forward to? Making garland for our tree and centerpieces for holiday parties, sewing and gluing and painting and printing gifts for my loves, stirring up apple cider and hearty chili, and cozying up with my favorite man with the heat cranked up and our home filled with soft, glowing lights. But what all of these things have in common, is their necessity of time. So in the spirit of "yuletide carols" and "folks dressed up like eskimos," I'll be closing my shop from now until January. I may have a piece or two pop up for sale, but generally I'll get back to my Etsy conversations and emails after we ring in 2010.

I hope you're all able to enjoy this month with your loves, too. In a season filled with nostalgia, tradition and excitement, we all have so much to be thankful for.
